Terms of Service
Version 1.0 · Last updated 2026-04-06
1. Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using BarterBoo, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, you may not use the platform.
BarterBoo is a marketplace that facilitates service-for-service exchanges between people. BarterBoo is not a party to any trade. We connect people; we do not perform services, make guarantees about service quality, or take responsibility for the outcome of any exchange.
2. Eligibility
To use BarterBoo, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be a resident of the Los Angeles area (at launch — service area may expand).
- Have received a valid invitation from an existing BarterBoo provider or network owner.
- Provide accurate, complete information during registration and keep it up to date.
BarterBoo does not accept cold sign-ups. Access is granted exclusively through invite links.
3. Account Responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Keeping your profile information accurate and current at all times.
- Maintaining the security of your login credentials. Do not share your password.
- Maintaining one account per person. Multiple accounts are not permitted.
- Notifying us immediately at legal@barter.exchange if you become aware of unauthorized access to your account.
All actions taken through your account are your responsibility, whether or not you authorized them.
4. Acceptable Use
BarterBoo is designed for lawful, good-faith service exchanges. You agree to:
- Use the platform only for genuine service exchanges within the platform's scope.
- Represent your skills, services, and availability honestly in your listings and profile.
- Honor your commitments. If you agree to a trade, follow through.
- Communicate respectfully with other members. BarterBoo is a community.
- Report abuse, fraud, or safety concerns using the in-app flagging tools.
5. Prohibited Content & Services
You may not use BarterBoo to offer, request, or facilitate:
- Illegal services of any kind.
- Regulated services that require a license you do not hold (e.g., legal advice, medical procedures, financial advisory).
- Adult or sexually explicit content or services.
- Content or behavior that constitutes harassment, hate speech, discrimination, or targeted abuse.
- Spam, automated messaging, or unsolicited commercial communications.
- Fraudulent listings, fake reviews, or identity misrepresentation.
- Content that infringes intellectual property rights of third parties.
- Gambling, firearms, pharmaceuticals, or other regulated goods.
Violations may result in immediate account suspension without notice.
6. Service Exchange Liability
BarterBoo facilitates connections between people, but BarterBoo is not responsible for the services exchanged between users. Specifically, BarterBoo is not liable for:
- The quality, safety, or legality of services rendered.
- Disputes that arise between users during or after a trade.
- Injuries, damages, or losses incurred during service delivery.
- The accuracy of user-reported hours, skills, or trade history.
Users exchange services at their own risk. BarterBoo encourages users to exercise judgment, start with lower-stakes trades, and build trust gradually through the vouch system.
7. Intellectual Property
You retain ownership of content you create and post on BarterBoo, including your profile, listings, portfolio items, and reviews.
By posting content, you grant BarterBoo a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display, distribute, and promote your content on the platform for the purpose of operating the marketplace. This license ends when you delete the content or your account.
The BarterBoo platform, including its design, code, trademarks, and interfaces, is owned by BarterBoo and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute our platform without written permission.
8. Dispute Resolution
When a trade goes wrong, we encourage resolution in this order:
- Direct communication. Reach out to the other party through the platform's messaging system to resolve the issue.
- Community moderator review. If direct communication fails, flag the trade for review by a community moderator.
- Moderation decision. A moderator will review the situation, communicate with both parties, and recommend a resolution. Moderator decisions are advisory, not binding.
BarterBoo reserves the right to suspend accounts involved in unresolved disputes that involve abuse, fraud, or safety concerns.
BarterBoo does not provide legally binding arbitration and is not a party to disputes between users.
9. Account Termination
BarterBoo may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms, reported abuse, repeated no-shows, or extended inactivity.
You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Upon deletion:
- Your profile and listings are removed immediately.
- Active trades are cancelled and counterparties notified.
- Reviews you've written or received are retained with anonymized attribution to preserve the integrity of the review system.
Data deletion is processed within 30 days, subject to our Privacy Policy and applicable legal holds.
10. Invite-Only Terms
BarterBoo is an invite-only platform. Access is granted via invite links issued by existing providers or network owners.
You may not sell, auction, trade, or mass-distribute invite links. Invite abuse — including distributing invites to bad actors —may result in termination of both the inviter's and invitee's accounts.
Network owners retain the right to remove members from their networks at their discretion, without removing those members from the broader BarterBoo platform.
11. Modifications to Terms
BarterBoo may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we do:
- We will notify you of the changes.
- You will be prompted to review and accept the updated terms before continuing to use the platform.
- Continued use of the platform without accepting updated terms is not possible — acceptance is required.
If you do not agree to updated terms, you may delete your account before accepting.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by California law, BarterBoo and its operators, employees, and affiliates are not liable for:
- Indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform.
- Loss of data, profits, or business opportunities.
- Damages resulting from unauthorized access to your account.
- The acts or omissions of other users on the platform.
In jurisdictions where limitations on liability are not permitted, our liability is limited to the maximum extent allowed by law.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Los Angeles County, California.
